5. Article Categories

The Pakistan Journal of Gastroenterology (PJG) welcomes high-quality manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in gastroenterology, hepatology, gastrointestinal surgery, endoscopy, digestive diseases, clinical nutrition, and related medical sciences. Authors are requested to submit their manuscripts under one of the following categories.

5.1 Original Articles

Original Articles should present novel research findings based on well-designed clinical, laboratory, epidemiological, or experimental studies. Manuscripts should follow the IMRAD structure (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion) and provide sufficient methodological detail to ensure reproducibility.

5.2 Review Articles

Review Articles provide a comprehensive and critical evaluation of published literature on topics of current clinical or scientific importance. Authors should ensure that the review is balanced, evidence-based, and supported by recent references.

5.3 Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses

Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses should be conducted using internationally accepted reporting standards, such as PRISMA. Authors are encouraged to provide a detailed search strategy, inclusion and exclusion criteria, quality assessment, and statistical analysis where applicable.

5.4 Narrative Reviews

Narrative Reviews summarize current knowledge on a specific topic and provide expert perspectives on recent advances, emerging concepts, and future directions in gastroenterology and related disciplines.

5.5 Case Reports

Case Reports should describe rare diseases, unusual clinical presentations, novel diagnostic approaches, unexpected treatment outcomes, or unique complications that provide valuable educational insights. Written informed consent from the patient or legal guardian must be obtained before submission.

5.6 Editorials

Editorials are usually invited by the Editor-in-Chief or Editorial Board members. They provide expert commentary on current issues, recently published articles, or important developments in gastroenterology and healthcare.

All manuscript categories are expected to:

Be original and unpublished.
Comply with the journal's ethical and editorial policies.
Adhere to the journal's formatting requirements.
Include appropriate ethical approvals where required.
Disclose conflicts of interest and funding sources.
Successfully complete the journal's peer review process before acceptance for publication.
