17. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Disclosure Statement

The Pakistan Journal of Gastroenterology (PJG) recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies may assist authors during manuscript preparation. To ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of scientific publishing, authors are required to disclose the use of AI tools in the preparation of their manuscripts.

AI tools may be used for limited purposes such as language editing, grammar correction, spelling improvement, formatting assistance, or enhancing the readability of the manuscript. However, authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, scientific integrity, and authenticity of all submitted content.

Artificial Intelligence tools, including large language models and generative AI systems, must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship is limited to individuals who meet the authorship criteria established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Authors who have used AI during manuscript preparation should include a statement specifying:

  • The name of the AI tool used.
  • The purpose for which the AI tool was used.
  • Confirmation that all AI-generated content has been carefully reviewed, verified, and edited by the authors.
  • Confirmation that the authors accept full responsibility for the final content of the manuscript.

The use of AI for generating, manipulating, or fabricating research data, images, figures, results, references, or scientific conclusions is strictly prohibited. Submission of manuscripts containing fabricated, misleading, or unverifiable AI-generated content may result in rejection, retraction, or other editorial action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.

If no AI tools were used during the preparation of the manuscript, authors should include the following statement:

"The authors declare that no Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools were used in the preparation of this manuscript."

Notes

  • AI tools may assist with language editing and formatting but cannot replace the intellectual contribution of the authors.
  • Authors are solely responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all submitted work.
  • AI-generated references, data, images, or scientific interpretations must be carefully verified before submission.
  • Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI may result in editorial action.

Editorial Tip

The journal encourages the responsible and transparent use of AI technologies while ensuring that scientific integrity, originality, and ethical standards are maintained throughout the publication process.
